One of my favorite ways to spend a weekend is hiking the Billy Goat Trail. You go from an easy walk along the C&O Canal to climbing over rocks and scrambling your way along the Potomac. The trail runs through a protected area with an incredible variety of plants and wildlife. But for me, the real attraction is the hike itself. It’s challenging enough to feel like a real workout, with plenty of rocks to climb over and sections where you have to watch every step, but that’s also what makes it fun. Good hiking shoes and a watrer bottle are definitely a must. On a nice weekend, this is easily one of my favorite hikes in the DC area.
